Annual Golf Day – 20th June 2018

With 24 teams booked in Vale Royal Abbey for the East Cheshire Chamber Golf Day we knew that it was going to be a busy day, both out on the course and later in The Great Hall where dinner was to be served later to 114 diners.

The format for the day was a stableford 4 ball with best 2 scores to count and with 96 Golfers all out on the course for a “Shot Gun Start” it did sound like a tall order to manage but it went very smoothly thanks to competitors avoiding slow play and picking up when they were out of the scoring.

The course looked in superb condition and was enhanced by the various BMWs dotted around the club house and tees, all supplied by the major sponsor, Blue Bell BMW.

Blue Bell also provided the prize of a “MINI ONE” for a “HOLE IN ONE” on the tenth hole and Golfing Holidays for the same achievement on two other holes. Sadly no golfer was successful and the Mini went back to Crewe.

Other sponsor on the day were Approved Inspectors who sponsored the “Longest Drive”, Myers & Co who sponsored the “Putting Competition”, Berisfords Ribbons, Franklyn Financial Management, Hampton Dean Construction and SAS Daniels Solicitors.

The putting competition was won by Simon Howell of the Hampton Dean Team, the longest drive was won by Charlie Reed of the Wright Marshall Team and the nearest the pin was won by John Broadbent of the Richborough Estates Team. The best ladies individual score went Di Watson who was playing with the Astbury Ladies.

Third place went Erskine Murray’s Team, second place to the Wright Marshall Team and the winning Team was ALPS LTD with a score of 92 points.

Following the Golf Competition everyone enjoyed a succulent Roast Beef Diner.

After dinner a Charity Raffle and Auction took place with proceeds going to Ruby’s Fund, this year’s Chamber Charity of the Year. The amount raised was £4070 pounds in total. This was helped by David Watson’s announcement that Tim McCloud, Chamber Vice- Chair, and David are to take up the challenge of driving 5 Alpine Passes in 5 Days in a 5 series BMW to raise £5,000 for Ruby’s Fund.

Mike Hampton of Hampton Dean Ltd, Alan Smith of Reliance Medical Ltd and Edward Whitehead of Plasto-Sac Ltd got them off to a flying start with £2,500 of sponsorship, half of the target total !

All in All, A Fantastic Day
